Titanium can be used to create all kinds of things. It's very popular in the aerospace industry because of it's very strong and very light. Medical implants are often made from Titanium as well because it's non corrosive. But the most impressive use of Titanium can be found in watches. When it comes to great looks and solid construction, there's nothing like a Titanium watch.

Named after the Titans of Greek mythology, Titanium was first discovered in 1791 by a clergyman named William Gregor. Pure Titanium has never been found and must be extracted from other metals. Isolating Titanium was an expensive and labor intensive process until 1946 when William Justin Kroll invented a new, more efficient way to extract Titanium. The process would become known as the Kroll process and it's the reason why Titanium is much more readily available.

Titanium has many desirable properties that have made it the metal of choice in many different industries. Watch makers like working with the metal because it's so durable, yet so light weight.

Even though Titanium is not a valuable metal like gold or platinum, the craftsmanship and know-how required to work the titanium into fine watches and jewelry makes them highly desirable. Watch makers are able to do things with Titanium because it's so strong and lightweight that they aren't able to do with other metals.

Even people who normal couldn't wear a metal watch due to sensitive skin or allergies should look to Titanium for their next watch. It's hypoallergenic and it's also biocompatible. That means that it's non-toxic and the body won't reject it. And that's why it's a very popular metal to build surgical implants out of. Replace hips and other joints as well as some dental implants are made from Titanium. Now if people have no issues replacing their hip with Titanium, I think that wearing a watch band shouldn't create any problems.

Mens Titanium watches are an unconventional alternative to the same old silver, gold, or even platinum watches and they also cost less money.
