Are Movado Watches Really The Best In The World
There are a number of styles and designs of Movado watches. However, the most common vision of Movado's is the unique one dot design on a black dial design. The single dot is positioned at the twelve o'clock spot to signify the sun. This design is most readily evident in the Museum collection. The name of the watch, Movado, is of Esperanto origin. Esperanto is considered an artificial language having been invented by a Polish doctor with the name of Zamenhof. Movado means always in motion.
In 1881, a nineteen year old swiss visionary named Achille Ditesheim launched the company in a small town in Switzerland called La Chax-de-Fonds. The company has flourished and now boasts over one hundred patents and has been recognized over twice that amount with awards for style and design. There have been a number of notable watch designs over the years. For instance, the 1912 Polyplan, 1927 Erneto, WWI Soldier's Watch, and the 1950's Kingmatic are just a few of the more well known watches. The latest incarnation is the Museum style. Interestingly, the Erneto is characterized by a pillow shaped case that winds the watch with each opening and closing.
One of the noteworthy accomplishments has been the inclusion of the Museum watch as part of MOMA's, Museum of Modern Art's, permanent collection. The company has also been a supporter of the arts. It has also commissioned artists such as Andy Warhol. Among the organizations Movado supports are Lincoln Center, Joffrey Ballet, and the Kennedy Center to name a few.
Movado has designed thirty different Movado watch collections. They are also typified in some fashion with the single dot designation. A standout is the Series 800 which in appearance is somewhat analogous to a few other prominent watch makers. However, this collection, the Series 800, has some well known sports luminaries as its users.
A few of the more fashionable design collections are the Esprensa, Amorosa, Junior Sport, 14K Gold, Museum, and Series 800. A wrist bangle design differentiates the Amorosa collection. This collection is also offered in 18k gold, solid, and two-tone plated stainless steel with a diamond setting option. Common to virtually all Movado watches is a sapphire crystal and thirty meters of water resistance.
The 14k gold watches come with leather straps and silvered soleil dials. The Junior Sport is marked with the black museum dial and brushed stainless steel. The Series 800 comes in three sizes with a surgical grade performance steel case. Most Movados are water resistant to 30 meters, the Series 800 is resistant to 200 meters.
The watches are available in most of the larger retail shops in the US, Canada, and other international dealers. The watches can also be purchases online at one of eight authorized dealers. The online shops include such names as Macy's, Nordstroms, Zale's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Kay's, Helzberg, Gordon's, and Fred Meyer. Some of the latest Movado designs include the Movado Bold and Movado Master.
